Sloan first moved to New York from Boston at age 14 to attend the School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center. Three years later she joined the New York City Ballet.

During her time at NYCB she performed soloist and principal roles, received a Princess Grace Dance Honorarium and appeared in the Columbia Pictures film “Centerstage”, until an injury forced her early retirement in 2007.





In 2005, while still a dancer with New York City Ballet, Sloan explored her interests in technology and photography by creating the dance blog The Winger, a website providing photography-focused, first person, behind the scenes content from over 30 contributors from major dance companies around the world.

In 2007, Sloan and were featured in a national television commercial for the first generation iPhone directed by Errol Morris. The si te was also a Webby Award Honoree in 2008 and 2009.
